This is an east African country that you don't hear much about these days, and some *&^% Somali faction that calls itself "Al Shabab", I believe in Arabic this means "youth", set off explosives that killed 74 people whose crime was...watching the World Cup Soccer. According to BOSTON HERALD, those responsible claimed they were "doing their Islamic duty by killing their enemy wherever they find them", and something to the tune of wiping out watching of an "evil sport".
?!?! This is supposed to make people interested in Islam? Want to become Muslim? These same people who behead to the tune of "Allahu akbar" because some poor lady wanted a Christian Bible in Swahili?
I am a native born American, and people here tend to condemn Muslims for nonsense like making women cover their head and separating the sexes at the mosques. So what? Orthodox Jews separated the sexes in prayer.
I don't object to the most commonly cited objections to Islam, but I do object to Christians being killed because of their faith. I do object to civilians being killed on buses, subways, in cafes watching a sporting event. I do object to female clitoridectomy so that girls and women can't enjoy sex, and may die. I do object to women being maimed with acid for rejecting marriage proposals. I do object to forced ignorance and honor killings. Why do both liberal and conservative critics harp on veils and separate prayer rooms?! This is like treating cold symptoms when you really have pneumonia.
I also object to Muslims' admonitions to not speak ill of one's fellow adherent. I think if more Muslims spoke out against such evil adherents and let them know they didn't consider them people of faith maybe there wouldn't be this level of mayhem internationally. And they're really not helping win new adherents. I accepted the faith some years ago, and have not been observant in recent years. My SIL spoke of Americans accepting the faith, then witnessing such acts of misconduct from tax fraud by an American based Islamic charity to carnage, gave it up. When are these fanatics going to wake up and admit people don't fear Hare Krishna chanting housewives or Buddhist college students on their next airline flight and clean house? Enough in the name of "religion" already!
In Somalia, people have been beheaded and killed in other ways for watching the World Cup before.
Democracies can't be bothered to fight these Islamic extremists, so they get stronger, and become more dangerous.
BTW radio stations have been banned from playing music, and schools have been banned from ringing bells in the name of Islam in Somalia.
